PRESIDING JUDGE KEVIN C. BRAZILE WILL CLOSE ALL NON-ESSENTIAL OPERATIONS IN NATION’S LARGEST TRIAL COURT FOR 3 DAYS AND EXTEND TIME AND FILING DEADLINES IN CASES PURSUANT TO AN EMERGENCY AUTHORIZATION FROM THE CHIEF JUSTICE

Chief Justice Grants Presiding Judge’s Request for Emergency Order The Court Declares March 17-19 Court Statutory Holidays to Toll Time and Deadlines

In response to the substantial need to control and prevent the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Los Angeles County, Presiding Judge Kevin C. Brazile announced today that starting tomorrow, Tuesday March 17, 2020, every Los Angeles Superior Court courthouse and courtroom will be closed to the public from March 17-19, 2020, for a total of 3 court days. The Los Angeles Superior Court will reopen on Friday, March 20, 2020, for the limited purpose of hearing or handing essential or emergency matters, in Criminal, Civil, Probate, Family Law and Dependency/Juvenile cases.

If you are required to report or appear in court, please review these directions:

JURY SERVICE

If you have been summoned for jury duty and do not feel well or believe you have been exposed to COVID-19 and:

  • you have not been assigned to a courtroom, you may postpone your jury service:
  • through the Court’s My Jury Duty Portal at https://juryportal.lacourt.org/webportal/
  • by calling (213) 972-0970;
  • by calling the Juror Assembly Room at the telephone number and hours listed on your summons.
    you have been assigned to a courtroom:
  • please contact the courtroom where you are serving as a juror. Courtroom contact information can be found by visiting the Courthouse Directory (http://www.lacourt.org/courtroom/UI/Courtrooms.aspx) and scrolling down to your assigned courthouse.

PARTY/ATTORNEY/WITNESS

If you are a party to a case (plaintiff/petitioner, defendant/respondent), an attorney, or a witness and do not feel well or believe you have been exposed to COVID-19, and are scheduled for a court hearing, please contact the courtroom where your matter is being heard. Courtroom contact information can be found by visiting the Courthouse Directory (http://www.lacourt.org/courtroom/UI/Courtrooms.aspx) and scrolling down to your assigned courthouse.

LITIGANTS SEEKING SELF-HELP SERVICES

If you are a litigant who requires self-help services and do not feel well or believe you have been exposed to COVID-10 you may call (213) 830-0845 to seek assistance. Resources for providing self-help information over the telephone are limited and are intended only for those who are sick or believe they have been exposed to Coronavirus/COVID-19.

ALL OTHER COURT USERS

All other court users who do not feel well or believe they have been exposed to COVID-19 should not come to the courthouse. Many transactions can be completed online via the Court’s website at: http://www.lacourt.org

Santa Ana, CA – In response to the health concerns raised by the coronavirus (COVID19) outbreak, Orange County Superior Court will be closed at all locations for approximately two weeks, from Tuesday, March 17, 2020 through Friday, March 27, 2020.
