California Earnings Withholding Orders

Wage garnishment may be available to collect a civil money judgment. It requires the proper court documents and coordination with the levying officer. Child-support and tax withholding follow different rules.

Start with the California Courts wage-garnishment guide and confirm the receiving sheriff’s current instructions, fees and required documents. A Writ of Execution is generally required. Do not treat the forms below as a complete packet for every case.

California law limits the amount that can be withheld and provides exemptions. The amount depends on the debtor’s earnings and circumstances. Follow the current court forms and applicable law.

JPL Process Service, LLC can assist with service of supplied documents. We do not determine which collection procedure you should use or guarantee recovery. For legal advice or help preparing your case, contact an attorney or the court’s self-help center.
