Collecting From A Judgment Debtor
A money judgment establishes an obligation, but collection may require additional court procedures. Start with current information about your judgment and the assets or income that may legally be reached.
Compare Available Procedures
The California Courts collection guide explains routes such as wage withholding and bank levies. A recorded lien is different from immediate payment. Ask a lawyer or self-help center which options and forms apply to your case.
A Bank Levy Is Not An Ongoing Sweep
A bank levy is a one-time action. It does not continuously capture future deposits until the debt is paid. Available funds and exemptions matter. Review the official bank levy instructions before starting or repeating a levy.
Check Wage And Exemption Rules
Do not rely on an old statement that every judgment allows a flat twenty-five-percent deduction from take-home pay. Limits and protections can vary. Use current court and levying-officer instructions for calculations and required notices.
Information And Examination Orders
A debtor examination may help obtain information, but the proper order, service, and deadlines must be followed. Failure to cooperate does not authorize a creditor or process server to arrest someone. Requests for court enforcement belong with the court and appropriate legal advisers.
Prepare A Complete Service Order
Give JPL the issued documents, debtor’s full name, correct address, hearing date, and specific service instructions. Tell us whether a levying officer is involved. We confirm service availability and charges; recovery of the judgment remains a separate matter.
Arrange Process Service With JPL
Send your completed papers, recipient details, service address, and deadline to JPL Process Service, LLC. We confirm the assignment, current price, and available service level before work begins. JPL serves the documents you supply; your attorney or court self-help center should answer questions about which papers to use and the procedure for your case.
